Laurel High School (Montana)

Laurel High School in Laurel, Montana opened in 1908, with W.A. Longley serving as the first Principal. The original high school was an impressive, pre-war style structure located on First Avenue between Ninth Street and Seventh Street. It was known to the citizens of Laurel as "The Old North School". In 1910, the high school was moved to a building in Laurel now known as "The Old Middle School" located on Colorado Avenue while "The Old North School" continued to serve as the junior high school. The school, in its present location on Eighth Street, was constructed in 1962 where as the "Old Middle School" was transitioned into a junior high school and "The Old North School" was demolished (in 1969) despite great public protest.
